Am I eligible for Fees Free?
Our Level 3–5 programmes may be eligible for Fees Free under the government’s final year fees free scheme. This means you’ll pay your fees upfront to Land Based Training, and if you’re eligible, you can receive a refund through Inland Revenue after you complete your study. Eligibility depends on your previous study and training history.

Vocational Pathway – Agriculture (Level 2)
This hands-on course is ideal if you’re new to farming and want to build practical skills for the rural sector. You’ll learn the basics of livestock care, farm safety and essential on-farm tasks while working towards NCEA Level 2 and preparing for further study or employment in agriculture.
Farming Systems (Level 3)
This programme focuses on livestock production, farming systems, and safe work practices, preparing you for on-farm roles and further study at Level 3 and beyond. You’ll gain the practical skills and knowledge needed to work in New Zealand’s pastoral farming industry.
Primary Industry Operational Skills – PIOS (Level 3)
This programme teaches you how to use and maintain agricultural machinery and equipment, manage workplace risks, carry out operational tasks, and look after farm infrastructure — all while preparing you for real-world roles and giving you a recognised Level 3 qualification.
Agriculture (Level 4)
You’ll build on your existing farming skills and prepare for greater responsibility on farm. This programme focuses on coordinating farm activities, using technology, and supporting livestock and farm performance, leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Level 4) and progression into junior management roles.
Livestock Production Management (Level 5)
You’ll develop the skills to lead and manage livestock production systems, focusing on planning, performance monitoring, and improving productivity and sustainability. This programme prepares you for senior roles in livestock production and farm management while gaining a Level 5 qualification.
Apiculture (Level 3)
This programme prepares you to work as an assistant beekeeper or manage your own hives with confidence while earning your New Zealand Certificate in Apiculture (Level 3). You’ll learn the practical skills needed to work with bees and beehives, including hive management, honey production, pest and disease control, and safe use of apiculture equipment.
Vocational Pathway – Horticulture (Level 2)
This fees-free entry-level programme introduces you to the horticulture industry while supporting you to achieve NCEA Level 2. You’ll develop basic skills in plant care, safe work practices, and practical growing tasks, preparing you for further study or entry-level work in horticulture.
General Horticulture (Level 3)
This programme focuses on plant production, crop care, safe work practices, and the use of tools and technology used in horticulture, preparing you for entry-level work or further study in the industry while earning a recognised Level 3 qualification.
Basic Residential Property Maintenance (Level 2)
Perfect if you’re keen on building and property maintenance. Learn to use and maintain power tools, complete minor concrete work, build basic retaining walls and timber projects, and follow safe worksite practices.
Introduction to Infrastructure Works (Level 2)
With hands-on learning that builds real-world skills this course is ideal if you’re looking to start a career in civil construction. You’ll gain practical experience in safe work practices, using tools and small machinery, and environmental care to prepare you for work in the infrastructure industry.
Rural Pest Operations (Level 3)
Carve out a career pathway for yourself with this industry focused programme at Land Based Training. This course is a great certification move for those already in the industry, those who want to enter it, and those looking to start their own business.
