Agriculture - Beef, Sheep and Dairy
Beef, Sheep and Dairy farming has been part of the proud farming heritage of New Zealand and we are one of the world’s biggest exporters of dairy products. Our quality products are in demand because we are fortunate to have productive land, healthy livestock and modern farms. From livestock to soil management, fencing to machinery and, from the large stations to lowland intensive farming and pasture fed products farming is an adventure for those that enjoy the outdoors.
Apiculture
Beekeepers work in some of the most beautiful and remote parts of New Zealand and have a vital role in caring for and protecting bees and the wider environment, as well as producing honey and bee products, and pollinating important crops. There are many jobs involved in apiculture. Our industry needs workers in food production, warehousing, logistics, marketing, food safety and traceability as well as beekeeping. (Apiculture NZ)
Horticulture
There are 60,000 people employed in the NZ Horticulture industry in fruit and vegetable growing, harvesting, processing, distribution and marketing. New Zealand horticulture leads the way in healthy sustainable food production. Growing nutritious fruit and vegetables for local and world markets is helping our economic recovery and delivering seasonal work and career opportunities across an industry with huge potential (GoHort NZ).
Construction and Infrastructure
Every time you drive, turn on a tap or flick on a switch think infrastructure and the 40,000 people working in this sector to build and maintain our roads and services. If your goal is to be part of the booming building industry then a first step will be learning about property maintenance or carpentry in a construction setting.
Pest Control
New Zealand’s unique biodiversity is at risk from pests, weeds and other threats. A career in pest control and monitoring is about preserving and protecting New Zealand’s native animals, waterways and forestry, including managing threats from invasive pests and diseases.
School Programmes
We understand that each school will be looking for different levels of education & training. With this in mind, we offer a selection of Unit Standards and can build a bespoke course for your ākonga to engage in.
Keep Educating Yourself (KEY)
Everyone needs good literacy and numeracy skills to participate fully in the modern world. Our KEY programme works with students to build confidence, develop life skills, increase numeracy and literacy and prepare them for their future.
I got my level 3 Dairy Farming through Land Based Training. It was so cool. I met nice people and the tutor is awesome. I class them all as the naki whanau.
